Job Description
The Research Librarian - Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine (STEM) supports NUS academic mission by advancing interdisciplinary teaching, learning and research. He/she will work as part of a collaborative team under the Education, Research and Enterprise Partnerships (EREP) cluster, which aims to drive innovative services for influential research, quality education and visionary enterprise in NUS by partnering faculty, departments, researchers and students to curate and integrate library programmes, collections and services.
Broadly, the role involves teaching digital, information and media literacy classes, providing information services and research support across the research lifecycle, curating learning resources and engaging various stakeholders through outreach or partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Support
- Design and deliver library programmes to build information, digital and media literacy skills across various subject disciplines.
- Use a range of teaching approaches and learning pedagogies to meet curricular objectives in collaboration with faculty.
- Integrate subject expertise into learning activities to ensure relevance and impact.
Research Support & Information Services
- Provide research consultations to students, faculty, and researchers.
- Offer tailored guidance on using library resources, databases, and research tools.
- Respond to enquiries accurately and in a timely manner.
Faculty & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong partnerships with academic departments and other stakeholders to co-create programmes and services.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Promote library services to faculty, researchers, and students through targeted outreach.
Collection Development & Promotion
- Evaluate and develop subject-specific collections to meet teaching, learning and research needs.
- Promote awareness and use of collections in learning programmes and consultations.
Professional Development & Innovation
- Keep up to date with developments in assigned subject areas and teaching practices.
- Explore and apply emerging pedagogies and tools to enhance library offerings.
Others
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in STEM disciplines
- Master's degree in library and information science / Masters by Research / PhDs would have an added advantage
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnership with faculty and other stakeholders
- Aptitude for customer service and commitment to continuous improvement in service delivery to the University and library members
- Ability to work flexibly in a dynamic environment
- Excellent communication, presentation and instructional skills
- Strong inter-personal skills, including influencing, networking and negotiating skills, and an ability to promote innovative services clearly
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to work independently and in teams
- Candidates with relevant experience in an academic or research environment and/or familiarity with research resources and methodologies such as systematic reviews would have an added advantage
- High level of professionalism, commitment and the ability to work flexibly in a changing environment
- Understanding of emerging learning tools and pedagogies for designing programmes
- Understanding of core library domains such as information literacy, research and information services, collection development and loans services.
