Job Description

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the group of Dr. Ahmet Avsar at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS). The new group member will contribute to ongoing experimental research efforts in quantum magnets and proximity effects in two-dimensional (2D) heterostructures.

Qualifications

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have strong prior experience in both (i) 2D heterostructure fabrication and (ii) spintronics, with a particular emphasis on magnetism. The research program focuses on the investigation of novel magnetic effects in the monolayer limit, combining advanced nanofabrication, low-temperature transport measurements, and physical interpretation of experimental results.

The position involves extensive use of state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities, cryogenic measurement systems, and high magnetic field environments. Responsibilities include device fabrication, experimental measurements, data analysis, and active intellectual contribution to ongoing and future projects in quantum magnetism and related proximity effects. Additional details regarding specific projects will be discussed during the interview process.

Our NRF- and MOE-supported research group operates a dedicated laboratory space with full access to the cleanroom facilities at the Graphene Research Centre (CA2DM), specialized in 2D device physics. The group is also equipped with three cryogen-free, low-temperature, high-magnetic-field measurement systems, providing magnetic fields up to 12 T and base temperatures down to 250 mK. SQUID, MOKE and XMCD type techniques are also available and regularly utilised.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A PhD in experimental physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in 2D heterostructure fabrication.
  • Strong background in spintronics, particularly magnetism and spin-dependent transport phenomena.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent experimental research and to interpret results at a high scientific level.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.

Candidates with prior related experience will be given consideration.

Interested applicants should apply via the NUS Career Portal. More detailed project descriptions will be provided during the interview stage.
