Job Description

The Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials is seeking a highly motivated membrane scientist to design, fabricate, and characterise advanced membrane materials for applications in separation technologies, including water treatment, gas separation, and resource recovery. The candidate will contribute to fundamental understanding and translation of membrane systems with improved selectivity, permeability, and long-term stability.

Job Requirements

• Design and develop novel membrane materials (e.g., polymeric, inorganic, and 2D-material-based membranes, such as graphene oxide or MXenes)
• Fabricate membranes using techniques such as self-assembly, coating, casting, or additive manufacturing
• Perform structural and chemical characterisation (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, Raman, XPS)
• Evaluate membrane performance for gas and/or liquid separations, including permeability, selectivity, and fouling resistance
• Conduct transport studies for ions, molecules, or gases under relevant operating conditions
• Analyse data and develop mechanistic insights into transport phenomena in confined systems
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including modelling and AI/ML researchers
• Prepare high-impact publications, technical reports, and grant proposals
• Supervise students or junior researchers (if applicable)
