Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Fellow in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics, School of Computing (SoC). SoC is committed to research excellence across the board: Pursuing fundamental results and insights, developing novel computational solutions for a wide range of applications, building large-scale experimental systems, and improving the well-being of society. We seek to play an active role both internationally and locally in the core and emerging areas of Computer Science and Information Systems.

We invite applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow for a two-year appointment to work under the supervision of the Principal Investigators, Dr. Shaohai Jiang in the Department of Communications and New Media and Dr. Tan Chuan Hoo in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The project investigates how government communication strategies influence public understanding, engagement, and adoption of preventive health behaviors. This project integrates computational content analysis, nationally representative surveys, focus groups, agent-based modeling, and community-based intervention studies to develop evidence-based communication strategies for preventive health.

The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with an interdisciplinary team comprising researchers from communication, information systems, and public policy at NUS and collaborating institutions.

The successful candidate will:
. Assist in designing and implementing quantitative surveys, focus groups, and field experiments.
. Perform computational content analysis using natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLMs), and social media analytics.
. Contribute to the development and validation of agent-based simulation models for communication strategy evaluation.
. Prepare manuscripts for publication in leading international journals.
. Contribute to stakeholder engagement activities with government agencies and community partners.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:


. A PhD (completed or close to completion) in Communication, Public Health, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline.
. Strong quantitative research skills, including statistical analysis using R, Python, SPSS, Stata, or equivalent software.
. Experience with computational social science methods, including NLP, machine learning, LLMs, social media analytics, or network analysis.
. Experience in agent-based modeling or simulation is highly desirable.
. Demonstrated ability to publish in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
