Job Description

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) advances education, research and innovation across civil engineering, environmental engineering and maritime studies. The key objective is to support efforts to develop solutions that strengthen infrastructure, protect the environment and build more resilient communities.

The Centre for Urban Solutions at School of Civil and Environmental Engineering provides leadership in developing innovative solutions and sustainable technologies for space creation and urban infrastructure development.

We are looking for aResearch Fellowto work on a research project which aims to advance engineering solutions to mitigate the impact of climate change and focus on developing a cost-effective and eco-friendly method for coastal protection and recovery of land lost due to sea-level rise. The role will focus on conducting laboratory and field tests on sustainable construction materials, as well as writing project reports and scientific papers. Additionally, the appointee will assist the PI in writing research proposals and supervising students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research on using nature-based material to create barriers that mitigate coastal erosion, accumulate sediments, and restore land lost to seawater

  • Develop new methods to upcycle solid waste to produce sustainable material for biocementation

  • Perform numerical study of the model test. Analyze and interpret data to make informed recommendations for costal protection system design and optimization

  • Writing and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals

  • Assist in securing external funding through grant applications and proposals

Job Requirements:

  • PhD qualification degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related field

  • Strong background in biogeotechnics, geoenvironmental solutions and sustainability development

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Expertise in biomineralization, solid waste treatment and management

  • Expertise in multi-physics field coupling analysis

  • Competence in laboratory testing design and implementation

  • Publication track record is an advantage

  • Ability to work independently and develop solutions under strict timelines
