About NUS AIDF

The Asian Institute of Digital Finance (AIDF) is a university-level institute at NUS focusing on digital finance, fintech innovation, and AI for financial services. AIDF works closely with industry, regulators, and academic partners. This position is attached to the Credit Research Initiative (CRI).

Key Responsibilities

The Research Fellow will:

  1. Enhance AIDF-CRI Credit Risk Products
  2. Upgrade existing NUS AIDF-CRI products (e.g., probability-of-default models and analytics tools) using state-of-the-art AI/ML methods.
  3. Design, implement, and validate new modelling frameworks (e.g., deep learning, representation learning, generative AI, multimodal models).
  4. Work with technical teams to ensure robust deployment and maintenance of models in production.
  5. Lead Industry & Research Projects on Credit Risk
  6. Lead sponsored industry and academic projects on:
  7. Public firm credit risk
  8. SME/MSME credit risk
  9. Individual/consumer credit risk
  10. Engage with financial institutions, fintech firms, and regulators to scope problems and deliver implementable solutions.
  11. Produce high-quality outputs: journal/conference papers, technical reports, and industry whitepapers.
  12. Supervise and mentor junior researchers and/or students involved in related work.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a related field, such as:
  • Finance / Financial Engineering
  • FinTech / Financial Technology
  • Management Information Systems (MIS)
  • Artificial Intelligence / Computer Science / Machine Learning
    or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong research background in at least one of:
  • Credit risk modelling (corporate, SME/MSME, or consumer).
  • AI / machine learning applications in finance.
  • Solid quantitative and programming skills (e.g., Python, R) and familiarity with ML libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, LightGBM/XGBoost).
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and interact with both academic and industry stakeholders.
