Job Description

ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on a specific area of the energy value chain and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large-scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications. As a Research Engineer II at ERI@N, you will be at the forefront of our microgrid technology and clean energy solution development efforts, responsible for designing, testing, power and energy management systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain a distributed control system hierarchy over industry standard communication protocols such as MODBUS TCP, IEC61850.

  • Design and maintain SCADA applications, GUI/HMI, PLC programs and edge devices. Create APIs for cloud applications.

  • Digitally integrate new assets, test and commission hardware and software applications for microgrid field operations

  • Prepare, maintain & implement the standard operating procedures for the Grid Management Platforms, NTU owned testbed assets and industry partners.

  • Troubleshoot system issues pertaining to communication network and enhance security measures

  • Literary contribution on smartgrid related proposals, industry partnerships and manage the project progress timeline, milestones and deliverables.

  • Carry out field/site activities at located both in NTU and out of it as required

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in computer/electrical/power engineering with Automation and Control Systems background/specialization

  • 3-5 years of relevant experiences in similar role / technical hands-on experience.

  • Proficiency with Grid Communication Protocols (Modbus TCP, IEC61850, DNP3) for Smartgrid power and energy management systems

  • Solid knowledge of smartgrid automation systems, grid services, DER management and operational methodologies.

  • Experience in site supervision & contract work related to electric utility industry, preferably in the area of distribution system network, power system protection & switchgear.

  • Knowledge of servers, networking, cybersecurity, smart meters and edge devices is an added advantage (FactoryTalk, Ecostruxure).

  • Knowledge of data historian tools, archiving and recovery of time-series data

  • An effective team player with good written, communication & presentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently / develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous and eye for details / excellent organizational / time management skills.
