Research Engineer (1-year contract), SCIS

RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will be responsible for conducting research on embodied AI simulations for assistive robotics within collaborative, human-centric environments. The key challenge is to develop robotic policies that allows robot to intelligently adapt to human behavior to create more trust and at the same time produce more efficient and safe behavior. The successful candidate will be part of an active research team led by Prof Linh Kastner from School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS), Singapore Management University (SMU).

• Implementation of 3D reconstruction algorithms.
• Implementation of Robotics System infrastructure for social robotics.
• Concept and development of robotic infrastructures.
• Training of generative models.
• Conducting experiments.
• Data acquisition and annotation.
• Real robot field tests.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum Bachelor's/Master's/PhD degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines from a reputable institution of higher learning with particular focus on robotics, world models for robotics, social navigation.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant research experience in robotics, social navigation, 3D reconstruction, robot simulation.
• Proficiency in programming software/languages such as Python and C++ is required.
• Proven track record and professional experience in robotics simulation, social navigation.
• Demonstrated experience and know-how on ROS2, terminal command line, open source APIs.
• Excellent working knowledge of ROS1/RO2, robotic systems, robotic simulators, robot kinematics.
• Ability to break down complex problems and design effective solutions.
• Innovating new approaches and thinking outside the box.
• Applicants with research publications in the robotics area (RSS, ICRA, IROS) will be advantageous.
• Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small, agile academic research team is essential.
• Self-motivated individual who can work independently and collaboratively with team members.
