Job Description

School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) is an interdisciplinary school jointly established under College of Engineering and College of Science at NTU Singapore. The Chiba group in CCEB is dedicated to the discovery and development of practical molecular transformations within the field of synthetic organic chemistry.

CCEB invites applications for a Research Associate position within the Chiba Group. The successful candidate will contribute to a Pfizer-funded research programme focused facilitate research in the development of sustainable photocatalytic processes to promote green chemical transformations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research, including experimental design, execution and data analysis.

  • Lead and coordinate project activities to ensure timely achievement of research objectives and milestones.

  • Prepare weekly progress reports and present research updates at group meetings.

  • Analyse and interpret experimental results to guide research direction and decision-making.

  • Prepare manuscripts and publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

  • Support the development of research proposals and future funding applications.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to students and junior researchers, where appropriate.

Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Organic Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry or related discipline.

  • Strong research track record in photocatalysis, synthetic methodology development, catalysis, or sustainable chemical transformations, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Experience in the design and development of photocatalytic systems, particularly metal-free photocatalysts, for organic synthesis and green chemical transformations.

  • Experience in reaction development, mechanistic studies, and optimization of photochemical and/or electrochemical processes.

  • Knowledge of reaction mechanisms, excited-state processes, radical chemistry, and charge-transfer phenomena relevant to photocatalytic transformations.

  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Prior experience in mentoring students, supervising junior researchers, or participating in industry-sponsored or collaborative research projects will be an advantage.
