Job Description

The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Associate on a 16.5-month contract at the Office of Teacher Education & Undergraduate Programmes.

Project Title:

From Belief to Practice: Grammar Instruction in Primary Classrooms

Project Introduction:

The objectives of this study include to examine primary school English teachers beliefs and attitudes towards the teaching and learning of English grammar, and to identify teachers preferred instructional approaches in the primary classroom. This study adopts a predominantly quantitative research design, supplemented by classroom observations and interviews to provide contextualised insights into instructional practices.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Statistics or a closely related field
  • Proficient in conducting statistical analyses
  • Familiar with educational research contexts
  • Prior research experience in education will be an advantage
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive and in-depth literature review
  • Manage the SurveyMonkey platform, assist in cleaning survey data, perform statistical analyses using SPSS or equivalent software, and interpret quantitative findings
  • Be involved in making classroom observations and coding of both quantitative and qualitative data from observed lessons
  • Conduct post-observation interviews with teachers, and subsequently transcribe and analyse interview data
  • Assist in drafting and preparing the final research report
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
