Job Description

Job Title: Research Assistant (Wearable Electrochemical Biosensors)

Posting Start Date: 11/03/2026

Job Description

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the National University of Singapore is seeking a Research Assistant to join Dr. Jihong Min's research group focused on the development of wearable and implantable electrochemical biosensing platforms for continuous health monitoring.

The Research Assistant will contribute to the design, fabrication, and validation of aptamer-based electrochemical biosensors for real-time detection of physiological biomarkers.

Responsibilities Include

  • Fabrication and characterization of flexible electrode platforms and aptamer-based electrochemical sensors.
  • Development and optimization of antifouling surface coatings and signal amplification strategies for biosensor

performance in complex biofluids.

  • Establishment and maintenance of animal disease models (e.g., rodent models) for in vivo biosensor validation, including stereotaxic surgical procedures and probe implantation.
  • Nanomaterial synthesis and characterization (e.g., gold nanoparticles, nanocomposites) for sensor enhancement.
  • Electrochemical measurements (cyclic voltammetry, square-wave voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) and data analysis.
  • Conducting cell-based assays and in vitro testing of sensor biocompatibility and performance.
  • Maintaining detailed experimental records and contributing to manuscript preparation.

Qualifications

  • Possess at least a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in the fabrication and testing of electrochemical biosensors, particularly aptamer-based electrochemical (E-AB) sensors.
  • Demonstrated experience with in vivo animal models and surgical techniques (e.g., stereotaxic surgery, rodent model establishment, probe implantation)
  • Familiarity with nanomaterial synthesis and characterization techniques (e.g., UV-vis, DLS, TEM, XPS, SPR)
  • Proficiency in electrochemical measurement techniques (CV, SWV, EIS)
  • Experience with cell culture and cell-based assays (e.g., viability assays, Western blot, immunofluorescence) is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., R, GraphPad Prism, SPSS) is a plus.
  • Open to fixed-term contract.
