Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for one Research Assistant position in the Synthetic Biology Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.

Job Description

The Research Assistant/Associate (RA) will be responsible to Dr Shi Jiahai and work with a team of researchers. The research project revolves around applied synthetic biology and focuses on red blood cell biology.

The Research Assistant is expected to:

  1. Take part in one or more research projects involving extracellular vesicle isolation, purification, characterization, and engineering, including the optimization of workflows for EV preparation from cell culture or biological samples.
  2. Perform experiments related to molecular biology, cell biology, and vesicle research, including sample preparation, nucleic acid/protein analysis, and functional evaluation of EVs.
  3. Assist in the development and optimization of EV purification methods, such as differential centrifugation, ultracentrifugation, size-exclusion chromatography, filtration, precipitation-based methods, or affinity-based approaches.
  4. Support EV characterization using appropriate analytical methods, which may include particle sizing, concentration measurement, protein and RNA analysis, imaging, and biomarker-based assays.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in mathematics or biotechnology
  2. Have knowledge and hands-on experience in molecular biology, biotechnology, or biological science
  3. Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, and be attentive to details
  4. Be passionate about science, self-motivated, naturally take ownership of assignments, and proactively propose solutions to arising obstacles.
