Job Description

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Shaping the Breeze is a Cities of Tomorrow R&D project developing Singapore's first validated, performance-based natural ventilation (NV) design framework. The project combines IoT field measurement, CFD simulation, machine learning, and occupant behaviour research to produce design guidelines and a decision-support tool aligned with BCA Green Mark. Industry partners include BSD Pte Ltd, Frasers Property Singapore, and GreenZero Solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research Assistant (2) - Field Measurement & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Install, calibrate, and operate IoT sensor networks (anemometers, data loggers, IAQ monitors) across case-study buildings
  • Conduct field measurement campaigns including tracer gas tests, thermal comfort surveys, and proxy behavioural observations across residential, commercial, and educational sites
  • Clean, process, and structure field datasets for CFD validation and surrogate model training
  • Liaise with public agencies (BCA, HDB, URA) and industry partners to support engagement on proposed amendments to NV guidelines and building standards
  • Assist in preparing technical submissions, workshop materials, and briefing documents for regulatory and industry audiences
  • Contribute actively to team project meetings, milestone reviews, and progress reporting
  • Support preparation of all project deliverables including the CFD validation dataset, performance-based NV guidelines, decision-support tool, and final dissemination package
  • Participate in stakeholder workshops with BCA, REDAS, and Frasers Property

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's (Honours) or Master's degree in Building Science, Architecture, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline
  • Experience in field instrumentation or environmental monitoring is an advantage
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for engagement with public agencies and preparation of technical documents
  • Organised and detail-oriented, with ability to coordinate logistics across multiple field sites
  • Motivated self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in sustainable buildings, tropical climate design, or urban environment research
