Job Description
The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.
Our laboratory studies RNA virus–host interactions across arboviruses (e.g., alphaviruses and flaviviruses) and human respiratory viruses (e.g., paramyxoviruses and orthoreoviruses). We integrate genome-scale CRISPR screening with molecular virology and advanced models—including primary human cells, organoids, and in vivo systems—to systematically identify host factors governing viral entry, replication, and pathogenesis. By linking unbiased genetic discovery to mechanistic and translational studies, we define conserved host dependencies that inform the development of host-directed antivirals and next-generation therapeutic strategies.
A Research Assistant (RA)/Senior RA position is currently available in the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Virology (Principal Investigator: Assistant Professor Dr. Ooi Yaw Shin). The successful candidate will perform a variety of functions related to research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) or his designate:
- Work with the PI to design, develop, and carry out research projects.
- Conduct independent research projects, including data collection, analysis, and preparation of results for publications/grant applications.
- Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and/or research findings.
- Assist senior researchers in the laboratory.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or related disciplines with a strong scientific and research background.
- Prior experience in high-throughput drug screening, primary cell/organoid culture, in vivo models, and bioinformatics would be advantageous.
- A strong team player who is highly motivated and can work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
- Possess effective organisational and interpersonal communication skills with strong written and presentation abilities.
