Job Description

The Laboratory of Cancer Ecosystems, led by Assistant Professor Regina Hoo, is seeking a Research Assistant to support her lung cancer research projects, focused on decoding the role of innate immune cells within the tumour ecosystem using novel in vitro models and primary human samples together with single-cell and spatial technologies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with clinicians and broader research community within SingHealth and Academia campus.

  • Perform molecular biology workflows, including tissue dissociation, human blood processing, single-cell/nuclei preparation and library construction for single-cell/nuclei multiomics profiling.
  • Develop and execute novel co-culture platforms that model disease in vitro, guided by existing single-cell datasets from primary human tissues.
  • Coordinate sample transfers with internal teams, sequencing providers, and collaborators.
  • Assist with research planning, risk assessments, SOP development, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
  • Conduct experiments independently that includes planning, execution, documentation, data analysis, and preparation of presentations or reports.
  • Work closely with bioinformaticians and research fellows, participate in lab meetings and collaborative activities.
  • Support day-to-day lab operations, including inventory, procurement, equipment maintenance, safety, and ethics compliance.
  • Provide guidance to junior members and assist in training students.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, with at least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience. Candidates with higher credentials may be considered for more senior appointments.
  • Candidates with background in cancer biology, immunology or stem cell biology are preferred.
  • Strong laboratory and molecular biology skills, with the ability to learn, implement and optimise new protocols.
  • Experience with primary human tissue culture and induced pluripotent stem cells is a plus, but training will be provided if needed.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team and in collaborative projects.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task, and work collaboratively in a diverse research environment.
