Job Description

The Research Assistant position focuses on the development of a heavy-duty dexterous robotic manipulation system for autonomous container coning/deconing in future smart ports. The appointee will contribute to the design, prototyping, integration, and experimental validation of robotic hardware and manipulation systems, including electro-hydraulic actuation, dexterous robotic hands, teleoperation platforms, tactile sensing, and robot system integration. Responsibilities include hardware prototyping, mechanical assembly, experimental testing, data collection, laboratory validation, and supporting technology translation in collaboration with industrial partners. The Research Assistant will also assist in maintaining robotic platforms, preparing technical documentation, and supporting research publications and project deliverables.

Qualifications

. Candidates should possess a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines.

. Hands-on experience in robotic system development, mechanical design, prototyping, hardware integration, or experimental validation is highly desirable.

. Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:

. robotic manipulation

. robotic hands or grippers

. teleoperation systems

. electromechanical or hydraulic systems

. CAD design and mechanical fabrication

. embedded systems and sensor integration

. ROS, C++, or Python programming.

. Candidates should demonstrate strong practical problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary research team, and good written and verbal communication skills in English for the purpose of preparing research reports and research presentations.
