Robotics Engineer / Research Engineer

Our Robotics and Automation Research (ROAR) Laboratory at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is a leading research group specializing in advanced robotic systems, including reconfigurable robotics and autonomous robotic platforms. The lab has contributed to significant intellectual outcomes, novel robotic platforms, impactful applications, patents, and commercialization activities. Our research spans multiple domains including robotic mobility, intelligent systems, perception, and deployable robotic platforms for real-world applications.

We are seeking motivated Robotics Engineers / Research Engineers from diverse engineering and research backgrounds to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge robotics research and development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and prototype robotic systems and subsystems to achieve project goals and research KPIs across applications such as inspection, surveillance, logistics, maintenance, and service robotics.

  • Conduct research and implementation of various robotic subsystems including mechanical structures, sensing systems, electronics integration, and computing architectures.

  • Support the design, testing, and validation of robotic platforms and experimental systems through simulations, prototyping, and real-world trials.

  • Develop experimental setups and conduct performance evaluations for robotic systems, including hardware and software components.

  • Work on integration of sensors, computing modules, and embedded systems into robotic platforms.

  • Assist in documenting research outcomes through technical reports, publications, and presentations.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including researchers, engineers, and industry partners.

  • Support prototyping, fabrication, and system assembly where required.

Requirements

  • Degree (Bachelor's / Master's / PhD) in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related fields.

  • Background in robotics research, system design, or engineering development is preferred.

  • Experience with robotics development tools, simulation platforms, or design software is beneficial (e.g., CAD tools, ROS/ROS2, robotics simulation environments).

  • Familiarity with hardware integration, sensors, or robotic system architectures is advantageous.

  • Strong problem-solving ability and willingness to work in interdisciplinary research environments.

  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with research teams.
