Job Description

Established in 1992, the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) is the only full-fledged communication school in Singapore and is a world-class centre of excellence with an international faculty, state-of-the-art research laboratories, and global institutional affiliations.

We are looking for a Research Assistant to be tasked with supporting the planning and implementation of a research project focused on examining disinformation and propaganda operations across Southeast Asia and their impact on Singaporeans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Keep track of expenditure and remaining budget in an organized manner, ensuring that the spend is optimized and on track with respect to goals set for the grant.

  • Liaise with external vendors to purchase necessary equipment/materials for research studies, including specialised equipment, software, and research participant incentives

  • Lead the recruitment of participants for experiment sessions and focus groups

  • Conduct literature reviews

  • Plan the necessary logistics, for the administration of experiments and focus group sessions, such as scheduling, booking facilities, and preparing IRB documentation

  • Participate in the data collection process for both qualitative (e.g. interviews, focus group sessions) and

  • quantitative (e.g. experiments, surveys) studies

  • Analyse data for various projects using tools such as SPSS, R, and/or Microsoft Excel

  • Prepare financial and progress reports, presentations, as well as other research-related documents

  • Draft conference and journal submissions based on research findings

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies, Information Studies, or related social science fields

  • Good project management skills, with multi-tasking ability

  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research for social science

  • Academic writing skills

  • Ability to run standard statistical tests (e.g., using SPSS or SATS or R, for regression, ANOVA, etc.)

  • Knowledge of advanced statistical tests (e.g. moderation/mediation, hierarchical regression etc.) is preferred

  • A good team player with effective communication skills and the ability to work closely with faculty, staff, students and external collaborators

  • Past experience in a Research Assistant role is preferred
