RainbowAsia (official name: Rainbow Youth Asia Ltd) aims to build a Singapore where youth thrive in a supportive and equitable community. Programs and initiatives are organised according to three pillars: Safe Harbour, Leadership Incubator, and Ecosystem Builder.

Research Description

To understand how LGBTIAQ+ students in Singapore perceive and navigate their institutional climates, including safety, belonging, discrimination, access to resources, and institutional responsiveness, and how these experiences vary across identities, campuses, and structural contexts. The project is also designed to support future policy change by generating Singapore-specific, community-centered, and empirically grounded insights.

Role Description

This is a volunteer position for a Research Assistant / Associate / Lead. It is a hybrid role based in Singapore, allowing a mix of on-site and remote work. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as the role may involve working with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Research Assistant

  • Provide comprehensive on-the-ground support for community outreach by assisting in sending emails, managing sign-ups, and tracking responses
  • Manage and organise physical and digital research files
  • Assist with data entry, verification, and basic data cleaning
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support the research team and the collaboration

Research Associate

  • Execute the community outreach strategy to recruit research participants
  • Co-facilitate or facilitate data collection sessions
  • Manage all local logistics for data collection
  • Any other tasks as required by the Lead

Research Lead

  • Lead the community engagement plan based on recruitment targets
  • Lead all data collection using the co-developed instruments.
  • Implement and manage the IRB-approved protocols on the ground
  • Lead the data analysis and interpretation
  • Lead in the creation and dissemination of all public materials (e.g. reports, briefs)
  • Manage RainbowAsia's research team (Associates, Assistants) for this project
  • Lead in organising a community event to close the project
  • Any other tasks as deemed necessary or assigned by RainbowAsia

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex information and produce insights
  • Excellent Communication skills for presenting findings and collaborating with teams
  • Background in social sciences, youth-related studies, or other relevant disciplines is beneficial
  • A passion for youth empowerment and community development is highly valued
  • Current students who are interested in research are welcome
  • Must have completed minimally a degree programme (Research Lead)
