Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Regional Legal Counsel, Asia Pacific to lead the legal agenda across the region, excluding China and India.

As the senior legal advisor for the region, you will partner closely with regional and country management to enable business growth, identify opportunities and manage legal, commercial and ethical risks. You will also connect the regional business with Alfa Laval's global Legal and Compliance network.

This is an individual-contributor role with broad regional responsibility. Success requires someone who takes ownership, anticipates emerging needs and proactively engages the business with timely, practical legal guidance.

The position is based in Singapore and reports to Managing Director, SEA, with a functional connection to Alfa Laval Group Legal and Compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead legal operations for Asia Pacific, directly managing commercial and operational legal matters across South East Asia.
  • Collaborate as an active member of the South East Asia Management Team to align legal strategy with business goals.
  • Translate business priorities into a clear regional legal agenda and drive its effective implementation.
  • Provide practical legal advice and conduct thorough commercial, legal, and ethical risk assessments to support decision-making.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements including customer, supplier, distributor, service, project, and partnership contracts.
  • Advise management on corporate governance and compliance matters, focusing on anti-bribery, anti-corruption, export control, and sanctions regulations.
  • Implement and continuously improve legal policies, processes, contract templates, and supporting tools across the region to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Develop legal and compliance capabilities by delivering practical training, communication, and knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Manage disputes, claims, investigations, and litigation by coordinating with external counsel to protect company interests.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and translate changes into actionable business strategies.
  • Oversee external legal resources, managing scope, quality, and cost to optimize legal support.

Required competencies and certifications

  • Recognized law degree and admission or qualification to practise law in a relevant jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in a reputable commercial law firm and/or in-house legal function within a multinational company.
  • Strong business acumen demonstrated by balancing commercial opportunities with appropriate legal and ethical risk management.
  • Proven ability to advise and constructively challenge senior management with confidence and credibility.
