Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Department:Regional Functional Legal

Reports to: Regional Functional Legal Manager

Territory: ASEAN + India (hereinafter referred to as Territory)

Functional Relationships with:

All affiliates in the Territory (hereinafter referred to as Affiliates)

Position Profile:

Based in ASEAN India Regional Functional Centre, the Candidate will be engaged with a cross-border legal support in the Territory (e.g., contract support, export control, legal compliance and the like).

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

(Common)

  • Continuously set up close relationship with the Affiliates in order to make sure transparent governance in the Territory.
  • Proactively address legal issues with legal firms including disputes, litigation, and any regulatory matters that might affect our business in the Territory.
  • Ensure proper report line with HQ in order to immediately escalate occurred legal risk in the Territory.
  • Collect, analyze and share any information related to any applicable laws and regulations in the Territory (hereinafter referred to as Applicable laws), in order the Affiliates to realize legal trend.
  • Address further work efficiency with new technology such as DX.
  • Guidance and training for young legal staff through sharing of own experience.

(Contract support)

  • Provide legal support for daily operation, as well as projects assigned as person in charge, in order to manage legal risk in the Territory (such as legal research and writing, drafting, proofreading, reviewing and arranging for execution of relevant contracts, creation and update of formats and the like)
  • Provide refresher training for sales members in the Territory upon Master Purchase Agreement and Non-Disclosure Agreement and any relevant contracts in order to improve their awareness with regards to potential legal risks therein.

(Export control)

  • Support to establish an export control organization and structure for the Affiliates in order to adhere to the Applicable laws.
  • Dealing with regulatory matters including correspondence with regulators and regulatory examinations of export control regulations.

(Compliance)

  • Engage with enhancing legal compliance for this Territory.
  • Visualization potential legal risk through a risk map and advise the Affiliates to figure out its countermeasure).
  • Conduct compliance trainings such as anti-cartel, anti-corruption, anti-fraud, conflicts of interest, whistleblowing and the like (hereinafter referred to as Compliance trainings), and review relevant materials as appropriate.
  • Support the Affiliates in order to make sure to continuously conduct the Compliance trainings in place.
  • Manage whistleblowing hotline as window person, and support or conduct investigation.
  • Address external audits such as Responsible Business Alliance (RBA).

ABILITY/COMPETENCY REQUIRED

  • Degree in legal field, international business or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience working in law firms or as an in-house legal and compliance.
  • Experience on advising on intellectual property and information security matters.
  • Highly competent with MS Office (Power Point, Excel and especially Word).
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to multi-task and self-motivated individual under a challenging work environment.
  • Able to travel for the Territory.
  • Good social etiquette and writing skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and deadline-oriented.
  • Challenging mind for our business not only traditional but new business as legal professional.
  • Communication in Japanese (desirable)
