Job Description Radiographer / Sonographer
1. Operations & Clinical
- Perform diagnostic imaging procedures according to physician requests and clinical guidelines (e.g., General X-Ray, BMD and Mammography; Ultrasound) and other assigned modalities.
- Ensure all procedures are conducted in accordance with SOPs, licensing requirements, and best clinical practices.
- Verify patient identity, clinical history, and procedure details before starting imaging.
- Select and adjust imaging techniques based on patient condition, anatomy, and clinical indications.
- Review images to ensure diagnostic quality before submission to Radiologists.
- Attend to Radiologists enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Escalate any suspicious or critical findings to the reporting team for urgent reporting, and report incidents or operational concerns to the Section Leader or Operations Manager.
2. Patient Care & Communication
- Provide professional, clear, and empathetic communication to patients before, during, and after imaging procedures.
- Ensure patient comfort, privacy, dignity, and safety throughout their visit.
- Assess patient needs, including mobility limitations, anxiety, age-related concerns, or special conditions.
- Explain procedures, preparation steps, and expectations to patients in a calm and reassuring manner.
- Manage challenging or anxious patients with patience and appropriate care techniques.
- Collect and document relevant clinical information to support accurate imaging and reporting.
3. Safety & Radiation/Clinical Protection
- For Radiographers: adhere strictly to radiation safety principles (ALARA), including use of shielding, safety checks, and pregnancy verification before X-ray procedures.
- For Sonographers: ensure safe use of ultrasound equipment, infection control, and appropriate handling of probes and consumables.
- Follow all safety protocols including infection prevention, PPE use, equipment disinfection, and emergency procedures.
- Report any safety incidents, near misses, or hazards promptly.
4. Equipment Care & Quality Control
- Perform daily equipment checks and basic quality control tasks to ensure equipment functionality and image quality.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of imaging equipment, workstations, and clinical areas.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and escalate technical faults to vendors or Operations Manager
- Document daily/weekly QC check list, Equipment Preventive Maintenance & Breakdown Service Report and incident reports accurately.
- Perform and document image reject analysis in accordance with quality assurance requirements.
- Ensure adequate stock of consumables needed for daily imaging operations.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure accurate patient information and imaging details in RIS, PACS, or relevant clinical systems.
- Ensure compliance with PDPA, confidentiality policies, and organisational documentation standards.
6. Accountability & Professional Conduct
- Uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and patient-centred care.
- Demonstrate clinical competency and keep skills up to date through CPD, training, and competency assessments.
- Support locum personnel where assigned.
7. Teamwork & Centre Support
- Collaborate effectively with Section Leader, Front Desk staff, and other team members.
- Support cross-modality operations where needed to ensure smooth centre operations.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years working experience as a radiographer in a hospital-based diagnostic imaging facility.
- Applicants must be fully vaccinated (according to MOH guidelines w.e.f. 14 Feb 2022). Proof of vaccination, or doctor's memo for those who are medically ineligible for vaccination, may be requested for verification purposes.
