Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer (EDM) is responsible for the design, development, testing, and validation of mechanical systems for Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM). This role supports Makino Asia's R&D objectives by delivering reliable, high-performance, and safe mechanical designs that meet product quality, regulatory, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and evaluate mechanical systems for EDM machines, including motion drive systems, machine structures and mechanisms, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Support prototype assembly, system integration, commissioning, and testing activities during the product development phase.
- Analyze test results and implement design improvements or corrective actions to enhance machine performance, reliability, stability, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, software, manufacturing, and application engineering teams to resolve technical issues and support cross-functional projects.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including mechanical drawings, engineering specifications, test reports, design change records, and technical documents.
- Ensure compliance with Makino's quality standards, engineering processes, and QEHS requirements.
- Provide technical and engineering support to manufacturing, service, and customer support teams when required.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and engineering processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, precision machinery, and motion control mechanisms.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
- Good teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.
- Willingness to travel for on-site customer support, machine commissioning, and service activities when required.
- Customer-focused mindset with a strong interest in high-precision manufacturing and machine tool technologies.
- Prior experience or exposure to machine tools, EDM machines, or related industries will be an added advantage.
- Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn new technologies and engineering practices.
