Role Overview
We are seeking a senior-level leader to own and evolve Quality Assurance (QA) and Release Management across a complex, high-availability payments environment. This role is responsible for delivering rigorous, scalable, and highly automated quality and release processes that ensure reliability, security, compliance, and speed in a regulated fintech ecosystem.
You will lead a transformation toward AI-accelerated testing, continuous delivery, and intelligent automation, embedding quality engineering practices across the full software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Strategy & Leadership
- Design and implement an enterprise-wide QA and Release Management strategy aligned with business and regulatory requirements.
- Champion a quality-first engineering culture, shifting from reactive testing to proactive quality engineering.
- Establish governance frameworks, KPIs, and reporting for quality, release cadence, and production stability.
- Hands on leadership and mentoring of a small, highly efficient QA and release team across all product lines.
Automation & AI-Driven Testing
- Drive adoption of AI-accelerated testing frameworks, including intelligent test generation and maintenance, self-healing test scripts, predictive defect detection and risk-based testing.
- Implement end-to-end test automation across UI, API, performance, and security layers. Leverage tools to optimize regression coverage, reduce cycle times, and improve defect detection rates.
- Integrate AI tools into CI/CD pipelines to enable real-time quality insights and automated release gating.
Release Management & DevOps Integration
- Own release planning, coordination, and execution across multiple products and platforms.
- Establish fully automated CI/CD pipelines with robust quality gates and rollback mechanisms.
- Ensure seamless coordination between engineering, product, operations, and compliance teams.
- Drive progressive delivery practices (e.g., canary releases, blue-green deployments, feature flags).
Process Excellence & Governance
- Design and enforce rigorous, repeatable, and auditable processes aligned with financial services regulations.
- Implement standardized frameworks for test strategy and test data management, environment provisioning and stability and defect lifecycle management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, ISO27001) and internal risk controls.
- Continuously assess and improve QA maturity using industry benchmarks and metrics.
Performance, Reliability & Security
- Oversee performance engineering to ensure systems meet high transaction throughput and low-latency requirements.
- Integrate security testing (SAST, DAST, penetration testing) into automated pipelines.
- Ensure resilience and reliability of mission-critical payment systems through rigorous validation practices.
- Working with DevOps to define and execute business resumption and disaster recovery planning and testing.
Key Requirements
- This is a hands-on role.
- 10+ years in QA, Quality Engineering, or Release Management.
- Proven experience in fintech, payments, banking, or other regulated industries. Real Time Payments experience highly desirable.
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling automation-first QA organisations.
- Deep understanding of test automation frameworks, CI/CD tools, cloud-native architectures (AWS).
- Experience with test data management, service virtualization, and environment orchestration.
- Familiarity with observability tools and production monitoring integration into QA processes.
- Strong stakeholder management across engineering, product, risk, and executive teams.
- Ability to balance speed, quality, and regulatory compliance in a high-stakes environment.
- Data-driven mindset with a focus on measurable outcomes and continuous improvement.
- Exceptional communication and organisational skills.
