About the Role:

As the QA Lead, you will be the primary architect of quality across MagicPort's entire ecosystem. You won't just find bugs; you will build the infrastructure that prevents them. While this is an individual contributor role without direct reports, you carry strategic oversight for all engineering teams, ensuring a unified approach to testing, reliability, and observability. You will report directly to the CTO and will act as a peer to the Product Managers and Engineering Leads.

Responsibilities:

You will spearhead our transition into a modern, AI-augmented QA department, leveraging Playwright and AI-driven testing tools to ensure our SaaS (including mission-critical billing workflows) and maritime data products operate with 99.9% reliability. We are looking for a leader who values radical truthfulness, takes extreme ownership, and can influence decentralized teams to adopt high-quality standards.

• Define and enforce the global QA strategy and Definition of Done across all product squads.
• Architect, maintain, and scale a robust end-to-end automation suite using Playwright (or similar tooling).
• Integrate AI tools (specialized AI agents, or LLM-based test generators) to accelerate script development, maintain flaky tests, and expand edge-case coverage.
• Implement and monitor observability dashboards to track system health in production, ensuring rapid detection and resolution of regressions.
• Act as the quality consultant for product and engineering, identifying high-risk areas in the roadmap before a single line of code is written.
• Own the QA stage of the CI/CD pipeline, ensuring automated gates are fast, reliable, and meaningful.
• Oversee rigorous validation of complex maritime data sets to ensure MagicPort remains the source of truth for the shipping industry.
• Lead Post-Mortems for production issues, driving the implementation of long-term technical fixes rather than short-term patches. Assist with troubleshooting and resolving production issues as needed.
• Provide feedback and suggestions to improve software design and usability.

Job Qualifications and Skill Sets:

• 4+ years in Quality Engineering, with experience leading QA strategy or oversight across multiple teams.
• Deep, hands-on proficiency with Playwright (or similar solution). You should be able to build frameworks from scratch, not just maintain them.
• Mandatory experience using AI-assisted development tools to build, debug, and optimize test suites. You should be at the forefront of how LLMs are changing the QA landscape.
• Practical knowledge of observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Sentry, Datadog, Honeycomb) to bridge the gap between testing and production.
• Strong proficiency in SQL for data validation and experience testing complex API-driven SaaS architectures
• Experience testing data pipelines (ETL) and validating large-scale datasets
• Ability to thrive in a decentralized, remote environment where you are expected to set your own agenda and deliver maximum impact.
• Radical transparency in reporting risks and the ability to influence senior engineering stakeholders.
