Fleet Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the safe operation of the assigned fleet in compliance with the Company requirements as well as with existing international Rules and Regulation
- Ensure safe working conditions onboard all fleet vessels
- Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses implement preventive actions
- Promote QHSE awareness campaigns and foster a safety-focused culture onboard
- Monitor compliance with STCW 2010, MLC 2006, and ISO standards
Operations & Performance Management
- Ensure that the standards and requirements of the Safety Management System (SMS) are clearly understood,effectively implemented, and consistently enforced across the assigned Fleet Team and its vessels
- Support vessel Masters and ChiefEngineers, to ensure operational efficiency and reliability
- Track vessel performance metrics, including fuel consumption, speed, and operational efficiency
- Maintain vessel clearance and terminal vetting systems in coordination with Chartering teams
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the application of the Company Quality Manual (QM) leveraging the CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Action) approach to continuously review, improve, and ensure effective utilization of the SMS
- Set and monitor KPIs, fleet scorecards, and audit performance indicators
- Initiate and actively contribute to the Management of Change process based on investigation findings
Audit & Risk Management
- Manage internal and external audits, including ISM, MLC, PSC, Class, audits
- Monitor the safe operation and pollution prevention activities of the vessels in the assigned fleet
- Conduct regular vessel visits for audits and trainings with the focus on raising the awareness of the crew in the proper application of the standards as defined in the SMS
- Conduct investigations on incidents and off-track performance and evaluate corrective / preventive actions to be implemented as well as to follow-up on agreed initiatives
- Communicate conclusions of off-track performance (PSC, incidents of whatever type) to and within all existing internal and external reporting and vetting platforms (e.g. QHSE database) for proper closing out and reflection within databases tracking the Company / vessel performance
- Handle Security matters for the assigned fleet
- Monitor fleet performance on navigational aspects and evaluate off-track performance incl. corrective / preventive actions to be implemented
- Collaborate across departments on operational matters, serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team, and engage in customer meetings
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures for fleet operations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for marine incidents, including P&I/H&M claims and emergency response
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare reports on fleet safety, performance, and compliance for senior management and Owners
- Maintain databases tracking audit findings, regulatory updates, and fleet performance trends
- Represent the company in external forums to stay updated on regulations and best practices
Crew Development & Training
- Recruit new seafarers, assist in briefing, appraisal, and training needs assessment of senior officers and crew
- Ensure crew participation in safety initiatives and adherence to operational procedures
Additional Responsibilities
- Undertake ad hoc projects and initiatives to support fleet operations and safety objectives.
Requirements
- Master Mariner / Captain with at least 3 years of shore-based experience in fleet operations, QHSE, or marine management
- Strong knowledge of maritime safety, environmental regulations, and industry compliance standards
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage fleet operations, audits, and safety programs across multiple vessels
- Experience with liner shipping is highly desirable.
- Effective communicator with strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
