Job Description

A Project Engineer is typically responsible for the technical, coordination, and execution aspects of a project, ensuring that engineering requirements are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Standard Roles and Responsibilities of a Project Engineer

 

1. Project Planning and Coordination

  • Assist in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential delays or issues.
  • Support project managers in achieving project milestones.

2. Technical Management

  • Review engineering designs, specifications, and drawings.
  • Ensure technical solutions meet project requirements and industry standards.
  • Resolve engineering and technical issues during project execution.
  • Manage design changes and technical documentation.

3. Cost and Budget Control

  • Support cost estimation and budget preparation.
  • Track project expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Review contractor claims, variations, and change orders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.

4. Schedule Management

  • Develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Monitor project activities against planned timelines.
  • Report schedule risks and propose mitigation measures.
  • Coordinate project deliverables to meet deadlines.

5. Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, specifications, and regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and quality checks.
  • Review test results and commissioning activities.
  • Support quality audits and corrective actions.

6. Risk and Safety Management

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
  • Participate in risk assessments and safety reviews.
  • Promote safe work practices throughout the project lifecycle.

7. Procurement and Contract Support

  • Prepare technical specifications for procurement.
  • Evaluate vendor and contractor technical submissions.
  • Support contract administration and technical negotiations.
  • Monitor supplier performance and deliverables.

8. Stakeholder Communication

  • Prepare project status reports and presentations.
  • Facilitate technical meetings and discussions.
  • Communicate project updates, issues, and recommendations to management.
  • Liaise with clients, regulators, and external parties when required.
