Job Summary
Lead the Mechanical Department to ensure timely and quality mechanical repairs and upgrades for commercial ships. Manage staff performance, training, and safety to meet production standards and customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Mechanical Department to ensure smooth operations and timely completion of mechanical projects
- Perform mechanical repairs and upgrades on commercial ships to meet technical and customer standards
- Assign projects to supervisors and monitor progress both onboard ships and in the workshop
- Review and evaluate staff performance to maintain high work quality and productivity
- Plan and manage department staffing needs to support operational demands
- Identify training needs and coordinate skill development programs for ship repair staff
- Oversee staff training to improve mechanical repair competencies and safety awareness
- Monitor and review safety and hazard reports to enforce compliance with safety standards
- Implement and audit safety plans and practices within the Mechanical Department
- Track subcontractor working hours to ensure accurate labor management
Required competencies and certifications
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the shipyard or marine industry
- Strong knowledge and experience in propulsion, shaft alignment, thrusters, and CPP systems
