Production Engineer - Electrical and Electronics
Aliena is a leading Singapore-based space-tech company producing Hall thruster satellite engines. In January 2022 Aliena broke the record for being onboard the smallest satellite ever to host a Hall plasma thruster in-orbit. Since then, the company closed several national and international sales and R&D contracts with customers from Europe and Asia. Our engines are mission agnostic, serving all types of missions in any branch of space exploration or space economy, from very low Earth orbits to deep space.
By joining our dynamic and visionary team, you will take part in defining the future of state-of-the-art low power plasma propulsion systems.
Your responsibilities
- Support the assembly, integration, and testing(AIT) of Hall thruster systems and associated electronics, in particular the thruster control unit (TCU).
- Execute and refine production procedures, ensuring consistency, repeatability, and compliance with specifications.
- Perform functional testing and validation of the TCU subsystem and its coupling with other subsystems (propellant management assembly, thruster units).
- Troubleshoot hardware issues and lead root cause analysis for failures during production and testing.
- Drive and work closely with the R&D team to implement design-for-manufacturability (DFM) improvements.
- Design and develop testing jigs and procedures for TCU and other subsystems testing.
- Maintain and operate test equipment and facilities, including vacuum chambers and high-voltage systems.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, documentation, and traceability requirements for space hardware.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency, yield, and reliability.
- Assist in the environmental testing of TCUs and other Aliena systems (might involve travelling abroad).
- Partner with the operations team in planning for the scaled production stage of the propulsion system.
- Document and share best-practices.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
- At least 1 - 2 years of experience in production for electronics or related fields.
- Strong foundation in electrical and electronics engineering, including power electronics, control systems, and circuit design.
- Experience with high-voltage systems and safe handling of power supplies, including testing, validation, and verification.
- Hands-on experience with AIT of complex electromechanical systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for hardware failures in production environments. Experience with quality control standards (e.g., ISO, space qualification practices, traceability, documentation).
- Ability to work with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, vacuum systems, and data acquisition tools.
- Familiarity with cleanroom procedures and contamination control.
- Strong collaboration and documentation skills for working with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, fluidics, plasma physics, systems engineering).
- Familiarity with vacuum-compatible electronics and space-grade components (e.g., connectors, insulation, materials) is a plus.
