Purpose of Job
The Product Management Engineer is responsible for managing new product introduction (NPI)and product lifecycle activities from concept through prototyping, qualification, and mass production. The role acts as the technical and project coordination bridge between customers, R&D, and manufacturing teams across Singapore, Mainland China, Malaysia, and Taiwan. The engineer ensures that new products are delivered on time, within cost targets, and meeting optical and mechanical performance requirements.
Job Duties
1. Project Management & NPI Execution
. Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from RFQ to mass production.
. Develop and maintain project timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
. Track project progress and proactively manage schedule, cost, risks, and technical issues.
. Coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure smooth execution and timely delivery.
. Organize and lead project review meetings and provide progress updates to stakeholders.
2. Customer Engagement
. Serve as a technical contact point between customers and internal teams.
. Clarify technical requirements, specifications, and performance targets.
. Support DFM (Design for Manufacturability)discussions with customers.
. Coordinate prototype builds, engineering samples, and qualification units.
. Track and monitor quality feedback from customer, work with operation team in root cause investigation and analysis.
3. Market & Sales Support
. Collaborate with Sales Team to identify opportunities for increasing sales revenue and market share.
. Monitor market situation and conduct analysis on market, customer, and technology trends.
. Conduct market research and support development of sales strategies.
. Participate in sales and marketing activities, including exhibitions and customer engagements.
. Assist sales and business development actions including company presentation, technology roadmap presentation etc.
4. Engineering & Manufacturing Coordination
. Work closely with engineering teams to define process flows, establish assembly procedures, design testing protocols etc.
. Support optical alignment and calibration processes.
. Ensure product design is compatible with mass production capability.
. Coordinate with factories for pilot builds and production ramp-up.
5. Documentation & Change Management
. Manage engineering change requests (ECR/ECO)throughout development and production.
. Maintain product engineering documentation including product specifications, BOMs, assembly procedures, test, and qualification reports.
. Provide regular reporting to customers and internal management.
6. Risk & Cost Management
. Identify technical, manufacturing, and supply chain risks early and implement mitigation plans.
. Support cost analysis including material, assembly, and yield improvement opportunities.
. Work with sourcing teams to ensure component availability and cost targets.
7. Continuous Improvement & Development
. Actively engage in learning opportunities to expand knowledge and skills in optical engineering principles and practices.
. Seek guidance and mentorship from experienced engineers to enhance your understanding of the best industrial practices and emerging technologies.
. Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards personal and professional development, striving for excellence in all endeavours.
Experience:
. 0-2 years of experience as a Product or Project Engineer.
. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
. Experience in optics or a related field will be an advantage.
. Experience in customer-facing roles and cross-functional project coordination is preferred.
. Ability to understand and analyse market needs, particularly in optics, electronics, or R&D technology integration.
. Independent, proactive, and capable of working autonomously. A demonstrated ability to show initiative is essential.
Qualifications:
Diploma, bachelor's degree, or master's degree in engineering, Project Management, Management, or a related field.
Other Requirements:
. Excellent written and spoken English. Ability to communicate in Chinese effectively with counterparts in China and Malaysia is an advantage for coordination across regional sites and supplier/customer discussions.
. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, etc.), for data analysis and reporting.
. Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
. Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is highly preferred
