Job Description:
The Product Family Manager is responsible for leading a portfolio of product and customer development projects, ensuring delivery aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and engineering excellence. This role provides technical and organizational leadership across multidisciplinary teams, driving execution from concept through manufacturing readiness while developing long-term product and technology strategies.
This is a highly visible role requiring strong electrical and/or mechanical engineering expertise, combined with proven leadership in complex product development environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio & Project Delivery:
- Own and manage a portfolio of product and customer development projects.
- Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with defined scope and performance targets.
- Drive accountability across project teams to meet commitments to internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain delivery performance.
Product & Technology Strategy
- Develop and maintain product family designs aligned with business strategy and customer needs.
- Translate strategic objectives into executable development programs.
Planning & Resource Management
- Define resource requirements across engineering disciplines to support project execution.
- Develop and manage budgets for product and project activities.
- Optimize allocation of engineering resources across multiple concurrent projects.
Technical Leadership & Oversight
- Provide technical direction across electrical, mechanical, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ensure robust engineering practices, design quality, and manufacturability are embedded in all deliverables.
- Oversee technical decision-making to balance performance, cost, and schedule.
Organization& Capability Development
- Build a high-performing engineering organization capable of scaling with business growth.
- Establish best practices, tools, and processes for product development execution.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and mentor engineering staff members.
- Drive performance management, capability development, and succession planning within the team.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all engineering activities and deliverables meet internal standards, customer requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Monitor and control the quality of product and project outputs.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and product reliability.
Reporting & Communication
- Provide clear, concise, and timely reporting on portfolio performance, risks, and key milestones.
- Serve as a primary interface for product family projects with senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment across cross-functional teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Business Development and Commercial.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
- Extensive experience in product development and engineering leadership within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proven track record managing complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects or portfolios.
- Strong technical foundation in mechanical and/or electrical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large teams and influence across functions.
- Experience with budgeting, resource planning, and strategic roadmap development.
