Job Summary
The Product Development Engineer supports the development of electronic hardware for railway onboard systems, including Public Address (PA), Intercom, and Passenger Information Systems (PIS) such as LCD and LED displays and Train Video Surveillance Systems (TVSS). This role covers product design, internal wiring and enclosure-level electrical integration, final product testing, design verification and validation testing, troubleshooting, failure mode and root cause analysis, technical documentation such as Production Release, hardware requirement & specifications, routine and type, product certification, and manufacturing transfer.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
. Product design and develop with off-shelf analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic circuits to meet functional and regulatory requirements.
. Translate system and equipment requirements into electrical design solutions and technical specifications.
. Select electronic components and define interfaces (connectors, pinouts, harnessing) to meet performance, reliability, certification, and supply requirements.
. Work together with mechanical engineer to design mechanical enclosure to house electronic circuit, wiring, connector layout, etc, compliant with project design specifications & requirements.
. Work with external 3rd party design house to design and develop OEM equipment compliant with project design specifications & requirements.
Integration & Testing
. Define and document internal wiring and harness requirements, including labeling and interface details.
. Support electrical integration within equipment enclosures (grounding, shielding, segregation).
. Plan and execute design verification and validation activities, including functional and environmental testing.
Manufacturing & Deployment
. Prepare and maintain manufacturing deliverables including BOMs, placement files, test requirements, and assembly notes.
. Support DFM / DFT improvements and transfer of products to manufacturing vendors.
. Provide build support during pilot runs and resolve manufacturing issues.
. Support on-site testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting, including overseas support when required.
Documentation & Communication
. Prepare technical documentation such as PRDs, datasheets, design reviews, test procedures, and validation reports.
. Deliver technical presentations to internal teams, suppliers, and customers when required.
Qualifications
. Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
. 2+ years of relevant experience in hardware product development (railway systems experience is an advantage).
Technical Skills & Knowledge
. Strong knowledge of digital, analog, and mixed-signal electronics.
. Experience with MCU / microprocessor-based hardware design.
. Good prior experience in developing solutions for LCD/LED Display Systems, Communication Systems and/or Video Surveillance Systems.
. Knowledge of audio/digital circuit design, able to read PCBA layout & schematics, electrical drawings, 2D/3D mechanical product drawings
. Familiarity with EMI/EMC design practices and countermeasures.
. Exposure to high-speed interfaces (e.g. USB, HDMI, LVDS) is an advantage.
. Hands-on troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and related instruments.
. Working knowledge of configuration management, multilevel BOM, product architecture
