Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Contribute towards production of daily Tamil news content primarily across all digital and social media platforms and occasionally for TV and radio
  • Content would be garnered through reporting assignments, adapted from other platforms and self-generated stories
  • Create unique visual contents for social media; enhance stories with Graphics/Multimedia
  • Keeping track of social media and develop trends and issues monitored into news stories
  • Analyse digital data on a regular basis and suggest new strategies
  • Develop strong contacts as well as nurture close ties within the Indian and Tamil-speaking community and other news makers. Connections with key personalities and influencers within the Indian/Tamil-speaking community is invaluable for this position
  • Focus on community events and audience-focused initiatives to grow our community content
  • Assume a pivotal role in Seithi's outreach projects
  • Collaborate with youth contributors to brainstorm ideas and create engaging content tailored for our young audience
  • Assist in developing effective strategies for various social media platforms
  • You must be able to write fast and in an engaging fashion to attract users
  • Understand the role of Tamil News and our audience while delivering our content
  • Exercise high standards of accuracy, objectivity and timeliness
  • Adhere to editorial guidelines while writing and editing scripts
  • You will also be handling other duties as requested by your Supervisor or Chief Editor

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma either in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies or Arts & Social Sciences
  • At least 1 to 2 years experience in journalism or media related fields
  • Passion for and command of Tamil language — both written and spoken
  • You must have a strong in interest in news and current affairs as well as local Indian/Tamil issues
  • Familiarity with social media platforms as a tool for news gathering as well as interest/knowledge in mobile reporting and its technologies
  • Working knowledge of filming and video editing software would be an added advantage
  • Must have a constant urge to learn and be updated with the latest technologies
