Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Procurement Executive cum Horticulturist to join our team. This hybrid role combines procurement expertise with horticultural knowledge to ensure the successful sourcing, acquisition, and care of plants and trees for our garden centre. The ideal candidate will be equally skilled in vendor management and plant health, ensuring that our customers receive high-quality products while maintaining sustainable and efficient procurement practices.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Carry out procurement activities based on product specifications and customer needs.
  • Curate and maintain a list of preferred vendors through structured selection processes.
  • Monitor compliance with company procurement targets and policies.
  • Negotiate with vendors to secure favourable terms and conditions.
  • Collaborate with the Finance department to support vendor payment processes.
  • Source and onboard new vendors when required, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with external vendors.
  • Assess and mitigate procurement risks such as supply disruptions, market fluctuations, and seasonal trends.

Inventory & Quality Control

  • Work closely with the Sales department to determine inventory levels of plants and trees.
  • Oversee stock levels, making adjustments to maintain optimal inventory without excessive holding costs.
  • Inspect product quality upon arrival and instruct nursery operations staff on placement and care.

Horticultural Care & Maintenance

  • Provide recommendations on plant care and maintenance in line with environmental regulations.
  • Identify and address plant health issues through problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Prevent and treat plant pests and diseases, conducting regular inspections and health assessments.
  • Plan treatments and instruct nursery staff on the application of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of plant health, treatments, and care routines.
  • Oversee pruning, trimming, and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and plants to ensure optimal growth and appearance.

Client Engagement

  • Provide expert advice and guidance to clients on best practices for plant and tree care.
  • Support customer satisfaction by ensuring the availability of healthy, high-quality plants and trees.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Experience in procurement, vendor management, or supply chain operations.
  • Strong knowledge of plant care, pest management, and horticultural practices.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to balance procurement efficiency with horticultural quality standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments (Sales, Finance, Nursery Operations).
