Job Summary
We are seeking a Shift Process Engineer to monitor and support wafer fabrication manufacturing operations for Indium Phosphide (InP) based semiconductor lasers. You will ensure high-quality, continuous production by providing first-pass technical support and driving process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily epitaxy growth and wafer fabrication activities during shifts, reporting wafer progress and tracking wafer acceptance test (WAT) results to ensure production targets are met
- Monitor process health using Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools and promptly report any out-of-control (OOC) process conditions to maintain manufacturing quality
- Respond to issues and incidents raised by Manufacturing Specialists by identifying, resolving, and documenting equipment and process-related problems following the Out of Control Action Plan (OCAP)
- Escalate new issues and collaborate with Process Module Engineers to conduct failure analysis and troubleshoot complex process challenges
- Maintain and update OCAP procedure documentation in coordination with Process Module Engineers to ensure compliance and continuous improvement
- Support Process Module Engineers in designing and executing Design of Experiments (DOE) to enhance process stability, uniformity, and yield
- Assist in modifying process recipe parameters as needed to optimize manufacturing outcomes
- Supervise and guide Shift Process Technicians to ensure effective execution of wafer fabrication processes and adherence to quality standards
Required competencies and certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in wafer fabrication processes within the semiconductor laser or photonics industry
- Proficient in compound semiconductor processes and tools including Lithography, Plasma Etch, Wet Etch, Thin Film Deposition, and Metallization
- Experienced in InGaAsP epitaxy growth on InP substrates using Metal Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOCVD)
- Skilled in data analysis software such as Excel, JMP, and Tibco Spotfire to interpret process data and support decision-making
- Adept in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), and 8D problem-solving methodology to maintain and improve process quality
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and semiconductor fabrication environments to ensure compliance with manufacturing standards
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including night shifts, to support continuous manufacturing operations
