We are seeking an outstanding clinical leader to join us as Pro-Tem Head, Department of Ophthalmology, TGCH. This is a unique opportunity to establish a new department from the ground up and play a key role in shaping ophthalmology services at Singapore's newest public hospital.

The successful candidate will lead the development of a future-ready healthcare institution that will serve generations of patients and communities.

Reporting to the Pro-Tem Chairman Medical Board, TGCH, the successful candidate will provide leadership in shaping the vision, services, workforce and culture of the Department of Ophthalmology, while working closely with stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem to ensure readiness for the hospital's opening.

As Pro-Tem Head, Department of Ophthalmology, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Department of Ophthalmology.
  • Lead manpower planning, recruitment, talent development and succession planning.
  • Develop and implement inpatient and outpatient ophthalmology services and care models.
  • Build a positive, high-performing departmental culture aligned with TGCH's values.
  • Establish clinical workflows, operational processes and service delivery frameworks.
  • Foster strong partnerships and multidisciplinary collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Support the development of education, research and innovation initiatives in alignment with NUHS academic mission.
  • Drive departmental readiness initiatives and oversee preparations for hospital opening.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Senior Consultant or fourth-year Consultant in Ophthalmology with demonstrated leadership experience in clinical service development, departmental leadership and talent development.
  • Full registration with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC).
  • Specialist accreditation and postgraduate qualifications recognised by the Specialists Accreditation Board (SAB).
  • A distinguished track record in clinical care, education and/or research within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
  • Strategic vision and the ability to establish, build and transform a department from concept to reality
  • A strong commitment to cultivating a positive organisational culture and developing high-performing teams.
  • A pioneering mindset, coupled with the resilience and adaptability required to lead in a greenfield healthcare institution.
  • Strong advocacy for teamwork, respect, integrity, compassion, excellence and patient-centred care.
  • Passion for healthcare transformation, coupled with intellectual curiosity, innovation and systems thinking.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to foster effective partnerships across disciplines and institutions.
  • Proven ability to navigate complexity, optimise resources and make sound decisions in a dynamic and evolving healthcare landscape.
  • Experience in strategic planning, workforce planning and healthcare transformation initiatives would be advantageous.
