Position Overview

Details of the Division and Team:

Within the Private Bank, Wealth Management and Business Lending (WM&BL) is the Lending product centre of excellence offering bespoke lending solutions to HNW/UHNW clients globally. The division comprises 200+ specialist lenders, offering solutions secured against liquid assets (Lombard Lending), Real Estate (RRE/CRE), Art, Aircraft, Alternatives (eg PE), unlisted shares and other personal assets.

In APAC, WM&BL has a significant physical presence in Singapore, Hong Kong and India, supporting client coverage across the region. The Regional COO, APAC is a critical partner for regional Lenders and client-facing staff alongside all infrastructure/operational partners, steering key strategic and franchise topics for the region. They co-ordinate/deliver key projects, monitor business performance and support governance/risk/control. They also oversee regular performance monitoring and review processes. The role will include line management responsibilities.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Be a Key Partner for the Lending APAC Co-Heads to develop/execute on regional strategy (on franchise, people, risk, cost and operational matters), aligning to global objectives

  • Identify/deliver process streamlining/optimisation to maximise franchise effectiveness

  • Maintain a cost-conscious / capital conscious culture and identify opportunities to reduce cost without sacrificing control environment, and optimal capital landscape

  • Foster strong relationships with infrastructure partners and internal/external auditors/regulators to ensure key risks are well managed

  • Interface with Technology partners to ensure transformational projects have fit for purpose outcomes (solves the problem and represents optimal workflow)

  • Work collaboratively with the Performance Management team and other Lending COOs to prepare and manage revenue plans and cost, budgets

  • Work with Legal partners to optimize and harmonize legal documentation, security documents, execution and due diligence processes

  • Support oversight of the capital and credit risk developments of the book, ensuring appropriate hygiene on data, loan monitoring processes.

  • Drive operational and business process change to support the key objective of ensuring best in class service to our clients and best in class risk management

Your skills and experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Private Banking/Wealth Management in a global bank

  • Strong technical understanding of Lending as a business and its associated agenda topics, including lending processes, treasury / funding, bank capital, credit risk, legal framework and credit provisioning

  • Proven deep understanding of and exposure to key lending product offered including Real Estate, Lombard, Private Share Financing, Alternatives (PE), including Fund Financing

  • Proven track record in dealing with senior leaders across key stakeholder functions with a view to problem solving

  • Proven track record in driving transformation of both operational and analytical processes

  • Strong leadership, communication, project management and problem-solving skills, with ability to balance collaboration and push-back as appropriate

  • A proactive doer, strategic thinker, capable of fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Bachelor's degree in any relevant professional qualifications
