This role is responsible for exploring, evaluating, and developing advanced technologies for future Leica Microsystems medical and surgical products. The position drives early-stage innovation in areas such as medical imaging, fluorescence imaging, visualization systems, OCT sensing, AI applications, and other related technologies, and translates them into feasible solutions for next-generation products and product enhancements.

The key challenge of this role is to mature innovative technologies in a complex medical device environment while balancing technical performance, system integration, quality, regulatory requirements, manufacturability, and product needs. The position requires strong cross-functional collaboration and system-level problem solving to turn new concepts into practical, differentiated, and scalable solutions.

Responsibility

  • Lead the exploration, evaluation, and development of advanced technologies for future Leica Microsystems medical and surgical products.
  • Design, develop, and optimize advanced technologies and algorithms in medical imaging, fluorescence imaging, visualization devices, OCT sensing, AI applications, and other related surgical system technologies.
  • Drive feasibility studies, proof-of-concept development, algorithm development, simulation, and prototype creation for next-generation medical systems and product enhancements.
  • Develop test and measurement systems using deep expertise in optics, electronics, sensors, and data acquisition software.
  • Establish innovative test methods, performance characterization approaches, and manufacturing concepts to support technology maturation and future product industrialization.
  • Quantify system performance and subsystem interactions to support architecture decisions, design optimization, and technical trade-off analysis.
  • Use MATLAB and other development tools to create, assess, and translate algorithm concepts into robust product-ready software solutions.
  • Prepare clear and traceable technical documentation covering technology concepts, designs, experimental results, acceptance criteria, risks, and user needs.
  • Define and execute verification and validation strategies to confirm that technologies and algorithms meet design and performance objectives.
  • Ensure all solutions are developed in compliance with applicable quality, safety, regulatory, maintainability, and reliability standards.
  • Identify technical risks early, develop mitigation plans, and lead resolution of complex system-level technical challenges.
  • Support invention generation, patent disclosures, and technical differentiation for future product platforms.
  • Provide technical support required to ensure successful OCT design transfer, including troubleshooting product issues, driving performance improvements, and offering expert support for existing products when needed.

Professional Experience

  • Strong in advance technology development.
  • Experience in medical device development, preferably imaging &visualization related systems.
  • Proficient in MATLAB.
  • Experience in C++/C#
  • Minimum Technical Master's Degree in relevant field in OpticalEngineering, Physics.
  • Having a PhD Degreein relevant field is considered an added advantage.
