An exciting opportunity has arisen for Principal Maritime Commercial (Charterer) to join the Maritime & Supply Chain Excellence team in Singapore, as part of BHPs broader Commercial organisation. The candidate will be responsible for chartering and commercial delivery of sustainability and productivity objectives for the Maritime team and stakeholders, delivering optimised maritime solutions for BHPs commodity supply chain.
BHPs Maritime team provides safe and sustainable transportation of commodities by sea across our global production and customer network.
BHPs commercial activities are undertaken through a network of oces across the world supporting our major customer markets and the distribution of product from our operations. This role will be based in Singapore, being the primary hub office for Maritime activities.
The ideal candidate will:
- Manage and execute commercial transactions in the respective Freight trading books including execution of chartering activities and has experience with position management within dened limits and parameters.
- Combine experience with dierent maritime supply chain sectors, with specic sector knowledge in dry bulk markets across various vessel sizes (with a strong preference for having experience in the Cape and Panamax Market).
- Is accustomed to developing coverage strategies to balance short and long term physical and paper freight positions across time charter, voyage charter and spot contracting methods.
- Translate market information, indices and knowledge into value generating freight positions to optimize inbound logistics costs.
- Be strategically aware of industry regulation and their impacts and solutions.
- Voyage operations and delivery
- Articulates a sound understanding of the freight industry supply chain dynamics, particularly dry bulk sectors, and can identify optimisation levers to improve safety, sustainability, eciency and eectiveness.
- Stakeholder management (internal and external)
- Demonstrates keen external strategic relationship management with outstanding project management skills.
- Awareness of BHPs involvement in the maritime ecosystem and can articulate positive areas of change management potential.
- Ensures strong alignment between commodity sales strategies, growth opportunities and outlook of sourcing volumes against available maritime synergies to optimise inbound and outbound logistics costs.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in economics, Science, Engineering, Shipping, Supply Chain or Business.
Experience & Technical Competencies
- Experience in commodity, shipping and/or mining industry.
- Specic industry experience in dry bulk chartering and vessel operations.
- Strong industry contacts & relationships
- Deep knowledge of freight markets and operations.
- Experience in managing forward freight positions.
- Strong knowledge of charter party terms and conditions and voyage estimation tools.
General skills
- Computer literate, thorough knowledge of Excel, Microsoft products, Power BI
- Experience with SAP applications, VESON, Chinsay or other freight management systems.
Languages
- Fluent English, both verbal and written.
