Job Description

Role Overview

As the Lead / Principal Instrumentation & Control Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority and discipline lead across complex offshore energy initiatives. This position is responsible for delivering safe, dependable, and fit-for-purpose control system solutions throughout every stage of the project lifecycle, with a focus on offshore production units and floating assets (e.g., FPSOs, platforms, and brownfield integrations).

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) and engineering lead for all instrumentation and control matters.

  • Provide expert technical direction to resolve complex engineering challenges across various active projects.

  • Establish, maintain, and enforce technical guidelines, discipline specifications, and design governance.

  • Review, sign off, and approve high-level engineering deliverables and major technical decisions.

Project Execution & Governance

  • Direct all instrumentation design activities for floating production assets, offshore structures, and brownfield modification scopes.

  • Manage project execution timelines, interface coordination, and technical quality assurances across the design phase.

  • Oversee the generation and review of vital engineering documentation, including:

    • System architecture diagrams and control/safety philosophies

    • Instrument indices, I/O lists, and cause-and-effect matrices

    • Cable block schedules, termination details, loop drawings, and detector layouts

    • SIL assessment reports and safety validation documentation

  • Drive the overall integration and setup of Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS).

  • Support multidiscipline review workshops and milestones, including HAZOP, SIL assessments, FAT/SAT, package testing, commissioning, and facility startup.

  • Guarantee strict adherence to project specifications, client standards, class society guidelines, and international regulatory frameworks.

  • Collaborate closely with internal ICSS teams and cross-disciplinary groups to ensure seamless package interfaces.

Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the main technical point of contact with clients, third-party verification agencies, classification bodies, and EPC contractors.

  • Oversee technical bid evaluations (TBEs), vendor package integrations, and technical query resolutions.

Team Mentorship & Growth

  • Coach and mentor junior and mid-level engineers to foster technical competence within the team.

  • Contribute to talent acquisition, competency matrix reviews, and knowledge-sharing practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Experience: Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in I&C engineering within the offshore Oil & Gas sector.

  • Domain Expertise: Extensive background with offshore platforms, FPSOs, floating facilities, and brownfield modification projects.

  • Leadership Track Record: Proven experience functioning as a Technical Authority, Discipline Lead, or Lead Engineer on major EPC/EPCI developments.

  • Standards & Regulations: In-depth familiarity with relevant industry codes and class rules (e.g., API, IEC, ISO, NORSOK, and major classification societies).

  • Lifecycle Mastery: Hands-on experience spanning early-phase concepts, FEED, detailed design, site testing, commissioning, and operational support.

  • Preferred Experience: Working knowledge or prior design exposure to major marine ICSS platforms (such as Kongsberg Maritime systems) is an advantage.
