Position Overview
We are seeking a Principal Engineer (Receiver) to lead the development and productization of optical engine (receiver) for high-speed optical transceivers.
This role focuses on receiver optical engine integration, characterization, and manufacturing readiness. The successful candidate will work closely with photonic device and circuit designers to integrate photodiodes/APDs, passive waveguide photonic components, and receiver electronics into robust optical engine products suitable for high-volume manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Productization: Drive optical engine receiver modules from prototype validation through high-volume manufacturing ramp.
- Define Specifications: Establish receiver OE specifications, validation methodologies, and performance targets based on device-level capabilities.
- Component Characterization: Develop and execute advanced characterization for PDs, APDs, and TIAs, focusing on responsivity, bandwidth, and sensitivity.
- Passive Photonics Validation: Validate passive waveguide structures, including loss analysis, fiber-to-waveguide coupling, and mux/demux performance.
- Yield & Reliability: Analyze production data to identify yield detractors and reliability risks, driving continuous improvements in manufacturability.
- Test Automation: Design automated test flows and data analysis workflows for deep-dive root cause analysis of performance limitations.
- Cross-Functional Synergy: Collaborate with design, packaging, and sales teams to align receiver capabilities with market needs and technical documentation.
- Technical Mentorship: Provide strategic leadership and mentor junior engineers to advance the company's photonic integration roadmap.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or a related field.
- Master's or PhD preferred, particularly in photonics or optoelectronics.
- 812+ years of experience in photonics, optoelectronics, or optical communication product development.
- Experience developing receiver subsystems or optical engines used in optical transceivers.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis using Excel is required; experience with JMP, Python, C/C++, MATLAB, LabVIEW, R, or similar tools is preferred.
- Experience with mask layout tools (e.g., KLayout, LayoutEditor) and simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical FDTD, RSoft, ZEMAX, SolidWorks) is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities with excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
