The Role
The Founding Principal Architect owns the end-to-end architecture of OXMIQ's core cloud platform across compute, networking, and storage. This role sets the technical direction for reliable, secure, and operable cloud infrastructure, making the cross-domain decisions that turn complex systems into coherent services for customers and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the end-to-end architecture for cloud infrastructure across compute, networking, and storage, with reliability, security, operability, and long-term maintainability built in.
- Establish cross-domain design principles and interfaces; lead the tradeoffs and technical governance that keep teams aligned as the platform evolves.
- Evaluate open-source and commercial technologies, making clear build-versus-adopt decisions based on customer outcomes, engineering leverage, operational risk, and total lifecycle cost.
- Drive production readiness through failure isolation, lifecycle management, observability, upgradeability, and sound designs for varied customer and deployment environments.
- Partner with AI infrastructure engineers at the requirements and interface level so accelerator, scheduling, networking, and storage needs are addressed without compromising the core platform.
- Use AI-assisted analysis to accelerate architecture reviews, explore failure modes, and improve engineering decisions while keeping human judgment accountable.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring across the founding team, translating architecture into clear decisions and shipped, operable services.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency across a broad cloud-infrastructure landscape, including Kubernetes, virtualization, and bare-metal provisioning.
- Experience with software-defined networking and distributed storage, with relevant open-source experience in ecosystems such as KubeVirt, Ceph, and OVN.
- Proficiency in Go and related systems and platform engineering practices for building maintainable services and APIs.
- Deep, hands-on architecture experience across at least two of compute, networking, and storage — and enough fluency in the third to reason about the whole system.
- A track record designing and operating production cloud, infrastructure, or virtualization platforms in complex multi-tenant or multi-environment settings.
- Strong judgment around distributed-systems failure modes, security boundaries, operability, lifecycle management, and the consequences of cross-cutting technical decisions.
- Experience evaluating platform technologies and turning ambiguous requirements into durable principles, interfaces, and delivery plans.
- A record of setting technical direction, mentoring senior engineers, and helping teams ship and operate platform services — not just producing architecture documents.
Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years in cloud and & distributed compute clusters system, including time in architect or equivalent technical-leadership roles.
- Experience supporting systems and infrastructure across environments with materially different operational, security, or compliance constraints.
- Familiarity with heterogeneous accelerators and the requirements they place on compute, networking, storage, and scheduling.
- Meaningful open-source contributions in the cloud-infrastructure space.
Education
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
Working Environment
This is a hands-on role with founding-team scope, working closely with AI infrastructure engineers and the broader engineering organization to execute on the technical vision for the core cloud platform. The Founding Principal Architect owns technical direction across compute, networking, and storage, and provides mentorship across the founding team. AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code or equivalent) are a standard part of engineering practice at OXMIQ and are expected in daily work.
