Responsibilities
- Database Development: Analyze, design, develop, and optimize complex PL/SQL stored procedures, functions, packages, triggers, and views to support insurance applications.
- Data Integration: Develop ETL processes to integrate data from various sources, ensuring accurate data flow for policy administration, claims, and reporting.
- Performance Tuning: Optimize SQL queries and PL/SQL code to improve database performance and efficiently handle large datasets typical in insurance systems.
- Data Modeling: Collaborate with data architects to design and implement logical and physical data models aligned with insurance workflows (e.g., premiums, claims, reinsurance).
- Reporting & Analytics: Develop scripts to support business intelligence reports, dashboards, and analytics for actuarial, underwriting, and finance teams.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure database solutions comply with regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, or local insurance regulations) and follow secure coding practices to safeguard customer data.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including business analysts, developers, and QA engineers to gather requirements and deliver robust, scalable solutions.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for database designs, processes, and code to support audits and future maintenance.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in Oracle PL/SQL development, with at least 4+ years in architecture and design.
- 3+ years of experience in the insurance domain or strong familiarity with policy administration, claims, or underwriting processes.
- Proficiency in Oracle Database (11g/12c/19c), PL/SQL programming, and SQL query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle tools such as SQL Developer, TOAD, or SQL.Plus.
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, indexing, and partitioning for high-volume databases.
- Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, Oracle Data Integrator) is an advantage.
- Understanding of insurance-specific data structures (e.g., policy, claims, customer data).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Oracle Forms/Reports, APEX, or Java integration with PL/SQL.
- Knowledge of insurance platforms such as Guidewire, Duck Creek, or InsurTech solutions.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure) and database migration projects.
- Oracle Database or PL/SQL certification is preferred.
