Job Description

Job Purpose

The Piping Site Supervisor / Engineer is responsible for supervising the installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of piping systems for new-build vessels. The role ensures that all piping works are completed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and construction schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the installation of vessel piping systems, including cooling water, fuel oil, lubricating oil, compressed air, sounding, fire-fighting, bilge, hydraulic, exhaust, and other marine piping systems.
  • Review and interpret piping schematics, P&IDs, isometric drawings, general arrangement drawings, and installation documentation to ensure accurate execution of works.
  • Monitor pipe routing, support installation, penetration seals, pipe fittings, valves, and associated equipment installation activities.
  • Coordinate fabrication, fit-up, welding, assembly, and installation works for piping systems in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements.
  • Supervise valve installation, flange connections, equipment hook-up, and piping system integration activities.
  • Conduct and witness hydrostatic tests, leak tests, flushing activities, functional tests, and other piping system verification processes.
  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting activities to ensure piping systems operate in accordance with design requirements.
  • Coordinate with hull, structural, outfitting, HVAC, electrical, and commissioning teams to resolve interface issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Verify that piping systems are properly identified, cleaned, flushed, preserved, and prepared for handover.
  • Prepare and maintain inspection records, test reports, punch lists, commissioning records, and as-built documentation.
  • Support material planning and preparation of Material Take-Offs (MTOs/METOs) based on approved engineering drawings and piping schematics.
  • Monitor work progress and provide regular updates on construction status, installation milestones, and technical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations, quality standards, environmental requirements, and company procedures.

Requirements

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Shipbuilding, Piping Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

  • Experience in shipbuilding, offshore, marine, oil & gas, industrial plant, heavy engineering, or related projects.
  • Experience supervising piping fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning, or maintenance activities.
  • Experience with marine piping systems, machinery piping, hydraulic systems, utility systems, or fire-fighting systems will be an advantage.
  • Experience in naval vessel, patrol craft, high-speed craft, commercial shipbuilding, or offshore projects will be an advantage.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of piping installation techniques, testing procedures, commissioning processes, and construction practices.
  • Ability to interpret piping schematics, P&IDs, isometric drawings, material specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with piping materials, valves, fittings, supports, and marine piping systems.
  • Understanding of pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, preservation, and handover requirements.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures, inspection requirements, and project documentation management.
  • Experience in preparing Material Take-Offs (MTOs/METOs) and material planning activities will be an advantage.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical reports, test records, progress reports, and as-built documentation.
