About this Role

As a Locum Pharmacist, you will be based in one of the 27 Public Healthcare Institutions (PHI) in Singapore, you will be responsible for the logistics support and inventory control within the PHI. Working in a team you will receive and distribute inventory items and ensure inventory accountability and accuracy in the system. You will also communicate closely with hospital users to support in the hospital's daily operations for patients care.

The Locum Pharmacist (Procurement) supports hospital pharmacy procurement operations to ensure a continuous, safe, and cost‑effective supply of medications and pharmaceutical products. The role involves managing purchasing activities, inventory levels, vendor coordination, and compliance with regulatory and hospital policies, while supporting clinical and operational pharmacy services as required.

This is a contract role of up to 6 months.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Manage procurement of pharmaceuticals, consumables, and related supplies in accordance with hospital policies and tender contracts
  • Raise, verify, and process purchase requisitions and purchase orders accurately and timely
  • Monitor inventory levels, usage trends, and reorder points to ensure continuity of supply
  • Coordinate with suppliers on pricing, delivery schedules, backorders, substitutions, and recalls
  • Review and manage drug shortages, including identifying alternatives and communicating with stakeholders
  • Support tender evaluations, contract compliance, and vendor performance reviews

Inventory Management

  • Oversee inventory controls, including stock rotation, expiry management, and storage compliance
  • Conduct stock checks and support periodic inventory audits
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of medications, including controlled drugs (where applicable)

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure procurement and inventory practices comply with regulatory requirements (e.g. HSA/MOH, hospital policies)
  • Maintain accurate procurement, inventory, and dispensing records in pharmacy information systems
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and audits related to pharmacy supply chain

Collaboration & Support

  • Liaise with pharmacists, clinicians, nursing staff, finance, and supply chain teams on medication supply issues
  • Provide operational pharmacy support as needed, including clinical screening or dispensing (subject to competency and hospital needs)
  • Assist in workflow improvements and implementation of pharmacy initiatives

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Registration

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) or equivalent
  • Registered Pharmacist with relevant regulatory authority (e.g. Singapore Pharmacy Council), with a valid practicing certificate

Experience

  • Prior experience in hospital pharmacy preferred
  • Experience in pharmacy procurement, inventory management, or supply chain operations is an advantage
  • Locum or contract experience in a healthcare setting is beneficial

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical procurement and inventory principles
  • Familiarity with hospital pharmacy systems (e.g. inventory management or dispensing systems)
  • Good analytical and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly in a locum environment
