Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The PE Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality Physical Education lessons, supporting school sports programmes, and contributing to extra-curricular activities (ECA). The role ensures that students develop physical competence, confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for health and fitness within a safe and inclusive environment.
Areas of Key Focus
1. Teaching & Learning (Physical Education)
Deliver engaging and high-quality PE lessons in line with the school's curriculum framework.
Plan, prepare, and assess lessons that cater to a range of abilities and learning needs.
Promote active participation, skill development, and physical literacy among all students.
Use a variety of teaching strategies to motivate and challenge students.
Assess, monitor, and report on student progress in physical skills, fitness, and teamwork.
Ensure all lessons are conducted in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
Integrate health, fitness, and well-being concepts into lessons.
2. Support for Sports Programmes
Coach and support school sports teams, including training sessions and competitions.
Assist in the selection and development of students for school teams.
Support the organisation and delivery of inter-house, inter-school, and external competitions.
Promote teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among students.
Accompany students to fixtures and tournaments, including after-school and weekend events when required.
3. Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) Involvement
Plan and deliver ECA sessions or clubs related to sports and physical activity.
Support the broader ECA programme as directed by the Head of PE.
Encourage student participation and engagement in ECAs.
Assist in monitoring attendance and evaluating the effectiveness of activities.
4. Equipment & Facility Management
Prepare and organise equipment and facilities for lessons and activities.
Ensure safe use, storage, and maintenance of all PE equipment.
Report damaged or unsafe equipment to the Head of PE promptly.
Support inventory management and equipment checks.
5. Safeguarding and Student Welfare
Ensure the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection are upheld at all times.
Supervise students effectively during lessons, activities, and off-site events.
Conduct and follow risk assessments for PE lessons and sports activities.
Promote inclusion, respect, and positive behaviour among students.
Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
6. Communication & Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with PE staff, coaches, and wider school colleagues.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding progress and participation.
Contribute to school events such as Sports Day, Fitness Week, and tournaments.
Support the promotion of PE, sports, and ECAs within the school community.
7. Organisational & Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and student participation.
Assist in planning and organising sports events and activities.
Ensure compliance with school policies, including health and safety procedures.
Contribute to departmental planning and meetings.

Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the school's values.
Engage in continuous professional development and training opportunities.
Maintain a positive and proactive approach to teaching and learning.
Be flexible and willing to support school activities beyond regular hours when required.
Undertake any other duties assigned by the Head of PE or school leadership.
Job Specification
Years of Experience:
Minimum 2-3 years of experience teaching Physical Education or coaching in a school setting preferred.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related discipline.
Teaching qualification (B.Ed, PGCE, or equivalent) preferred.
Professional Competencies:
Strong knowledge of PE curriculum and instructional strategies.
Ability to engage and motivate students of varying abilities.
Good classroom and behaviour management skills.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Competence in ICT for lesson planning, assessment, and reporting.
Language Abilities:
Fluency in spoken and written English.
Additional languages are an advantage.
Other Requirements:
Experience coaching school sports teams is desirable.
Current first aid and safeguarding certification preferred.
Willingness to contribute to ECAs, sports teams, and school events beyond school hours.
