Payment Legal Counsel-Alibaba International-Singapore

We seek to hire Legal Counsel who will be a key member of the growing legal team supporting Alibaba International financial/payment business. The attorney will be based in Singapore. The key areas and requirements that we are looking for are those listed below:

Primary Responsibilities:

(1) Negotiate, draft, and review contracts and commercial agreements.

(2) Provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of the business models and strategies, business operations, marketing activities, and product offerings.

(3) Support the application for payment/financial licenses.

(4) Set up and maintain the legal and compliance framework on payments/financial related activities.

(5) Research local laws and regulations in foreign jurisdictions and manage outside counsel.

(6) Develop in-house legal tools and policies, and conduct training to business units.

Legal qualification to practice law, preferably Singapore, Hong Kong, or England and Wales.

7+ years of post-qualification experience at a leading law firm and/or corporation. In-house experience is welcome, but not mandatory.

Experience with e-commerce, and/or cross-border trade transactions (in particular re payments, financing) preferred.

English and Chinese (i.e. ability to hold business meetings in Chinese, and read and write in Chinese).

Highly-motivated and able to work independently and under pressure in a start-up environment.

Strong commercial sense with solid foundation in legal training.

High integrity and desire to collaborate with others.

Open to frequent travel within region and to China when feasible.
