Job Description

Oasis BRMC Mission is a missional satellite worship service and ministry of Barker Road Methodist Church. It exists to bring the church into the heartland - reaching the less privileged, the vulnerable, and the unreached.

The Pastoral Team Staff(Outreach & Social Concerns) will work closely with the Pastor, Release Pillar, Team Lead (Oasis BRMC Mission), relevant committees, and volunteers to plan, coordinate, and implement outreach programmes and activities. This role supports the growth and effectiveness of the Outreach Ministry in alignment with BRMC's vision and direction.

The incumbent will also provide pastoral leadership and care, journeying relationally with ministry leaders, volunteers, and stakeholders to nurture a Christ-centred, compassionate outreach community. There may also be the need for the individual to take on additional ministry responsibilities beyond the primary scope of responsibilities as assigned.

This role will require a willingness to work on non-traditional schedules which includes evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays, with the flexibility to get time off on a weekday.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oasis Saturday Tuition Programme

This programme serves children and youth from needy families by providing support that nurtures both academic growth and personal development. The incumbent will play a key role in shaping and strengthening the programme through:

a. Academic Support and Customisation: Provide structured academic help and tailored learning plans to meet students individual needs.

b. Supervision and Feedback: Oversee tuition sessions, track progress, and offer feedback to students, tutors, and parents.

c. Event Coordination: Organize enrichment activities and appreciation events for students and tutors.

d. Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong relationships with partnering schools and Epworth Community Services.

e. Resource Development: Gather and manage resources to support the tuition programme's goals and effectiveness.

f. Volunteer Management: Recruiting, equipping, and caring for volunteers and tutors-fostering both their service excellence and spiritual growth.

2. Social Concerns

This ministry seeks to care for individuals and families in need through practical assistance, compassionate outreach, and pastoral support. It aims to mobilise the church to respond meaningfully to the challenges faced by the vulnerable in the community, through:

a. Financial Aid Coordination: Manage applications and disbursements for Seasonal Love Gifts and Educational Bursaries.

b. Community Outreach: Organize outreach efforts that mobilize congregation members to serve and bless the wider community through service projects.

c. Pastoral Care and Visitation: Provide emotional and practical support through home visits and regular engagement with individuals and families facing hardship.

Others:

  • Serve as part of the Oasis Pastoral Team, including duties during weekend worship services and church events, as well as teaching Sunday School classes as rostered.
  • Participate and attend church leadership and staff meetings and
  • ministry-related meetings:
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by pastors or the immediate supervisor, within the current ministry or across other ministries.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualifications with at least one year of relevant hands-on ministry experience in a similar/related fields, with theological qualifications from an accredited institution preferred.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLSETS:

  • At least 1 year of relevant ministry experience serving with youth and children/involvement in Outreach & Social Concerns. Prior ministry experience working with in a church or Christian organization will be preferred.
  • Experience in Christian discipleship to Children/Youth.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with, befriend, engage, and relate to individuals from all walks of life.
  • Demonstrated strong administrative, planning, and organizational abilities.
  • A proactive, self-motivated, teachable, and innovative team player who enjoys and thrives when working as a team and seeks growth through evaluation and feedback.
  • Capable of providing basic pastoral care.
  • Able to create and sustain a nurturing environment that attracts, inspires, and renews volunteers and leaders.
  • Willing and able to adopt and leverage new technologies when appropriate.
