Paraxylene (PX) / PTA Trader

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Paraxylene (PX) / Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) Trader to build and grow our aromatics trading desk out of Singapore. This role is hands-on and commercial at its core. You will manage physical and paper trading, develop regional counterpart relationships, and actively generate trading P&L aligned with market fundamentals.
You'll work closely with internal stakeholders across supply chain, operations, and risk, with the autonomy to execute trades while operating within a defined risk framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Trade physical and paper PX and PTA across Asia and global markets
- Develop and execute trading strategies based on market fundamentals, arbitrage opportunities, and price trends
- Build and manage strong relationships with producers, consumers, traders, and brokers
- Originate spot and term business and negotiate commercial terms
- Monitor market movements, supply-demand balances, freight, and feedstock dynamics
- Manage positions, exposures, and risk limits in line with company policies
- Coordinate with operations, logistics, and finance to ensure smooth trade execution and settlements
- Prepare market intelligence, pricing views, and P&L reporting for management
Key Requirements
- Proven experience trading PX and/or PTA, either physical, paper, or both
- Strong understanding of aromatics and polyester value chains
- Established network of regional and international counterparties
- Ability to independently originate and execute trades
- Solid grasp of risk management, hedging, and trade economics
- Strong analytical and commercial judgment
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field
- Based in Singapore or willing to relocate
Nice to Have
- Experience trading both PX and PTA rather than one product only
- Exposure to integrated producer-trader environments
- Experience working with Asian refineries or petrochemical plants
- Track record of consistent P&L generation
