Key Responsibilities
Pre-Operative
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Ensure OT is set up according to the surgical procedure list.
- Verify patient identity, consent forms, and surgical site as per hospital protocols.
- Assist in positioning and draping the patient safely.
- Conduct instrument, sponge, and needle counts with the circulating nurse.
Intra-Operative
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques throughout procedures.
- Anticipate surgeon's needs and pass instruments accurately.
- Monitor sterile field integrity at all times.
- Manage surgical instruments, sutures, and supplies efficiently.
- Ensure accurate surgical counts before closure.
Post-Operative
- Assist with dressing of surgical wounds.
- Complete final counts and documentation.
- Ensure safe transfer of patient to recovery room.
- Oversee cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of instruments for next case.
Clinical & Safety Compliance
- Follow infection control policies and biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Adhere to NABH / hospital accreditation standards (if applicable).
- Maintain accurate OT documentation and records.
- Report any intra-operative incidents or equipment malfunction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and valid SNB registration for staff nurse practice
- Min. 2-4 years of experience as a operating theatre scrub nurse or in managing OT cases.
- Knowledge of various surgical specialties is a good bonus.
- Strong knowledge of sterile techniques.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure in emergency cases.
- Teamwork and effective communication skills.
- High ethical standards and patient-centered approach.
